The Erika Kate Foundation (EKF) is a non-profit organization based in Muscatine, IA. Named in memory of little Erika Kate Maynard, who died shortly after a heart transplant in 2006, the Foundation is dedicated to its mission of helping ease the emotional, spiritual, and financial burdens borne by parents of children with life threatening heart disease. EKF has been aiding families across the United States since its inception with the goal of becoming a recognized national assistance program for families of children with heart disease.

Last year, 90 runners and walkers participated in various events of the Quad Cities Marathon on behalf of Team EKF. The Foundation plans to field a larger team for the 2010 QCM.
