Pammy's Team
Pam Tischer-Wilson was a friend to all and especially the running community in the Quad Cities. She ran many marathons throughout the United States during her running career. In February 2007, Pam was faced with a diagnosis of a very rare form of colon cancer. Three years of surgeries, chemotherapy, medications and anxiety filled her life; however she never stopped running, never stopped working and never stopped being a friend. Pam died February 2010, however she ran her last Quad Cities Marathon the September prior to her death.Pam was also a friend to children. She bonded with all children and because of her ability to work with children and families, she was asked by Joe Moreno to please be on the Quad Cities Marathon Committee being in charge of "Steve's Team." Steve is a gentleman from Chicago who traveled throughout the United States with running wheelchairs and asked local communities to find children wanting to be pushed along the marathon routes and pushers willing to make sure the run was an enjoyable time for all. "Steve's Team" was a huge success! Fun and memories were made by all. Throughout all of time spent on planning each "Steve's Team", Pam continued with chemo and other treatments, however her dedication to the Quad Cities Marathon never wavered.
When Steve decided to retire in 2009, THE Quad Cities Marathon purchased the running wheelchairs from Steve with the thought Pam would continue the tradition. Unfortunately, Pam died but the mission lived on and even better it lived on in her name. Pammy's Team was established in 2010 and eight children and eight pushers finished the race in Pam's honor. It will continue to be a part of the Quad Cities Marathon for many years to come, offering an opportunity for children who would never participate in a race be a part of our great Marathon!
