Quad Cities Prostate Cancer Initiative
![]() |
Together in partnership with Us TOO International the Quad Cities Prostate Cancer Initiative's goal is to help increase prostate cancer awareness and provide important patient education and support programs and services in the Quad Cities area through your participation in the Quad Cities Marathon!
Over the last 7 years, THE Quad Cities Marathon and its participants have helped to raise more than $40,000 for free prostate cancer education and awareness services in the Quad Cities area. These services are provided through Trinity Health Foundation, Us TOO International, and the local Us TOO volunteer-led support group chapters. Funds raised have provided free education and support services to men and their families dealing with a prostate cancer diagnosis, free PSA screening at awareness events, and new outreach programs in African American and Latino communities in the bi-state area.
Bill, our enthusiastic Us Too rep on the race committee explains their involvement this way: The reason we have a team of men (participate in the QCM) who are prostate cancer survivors is to show folks that prostate cancer does not stop men from having a fulfilling life even after treatment of prostate cancer. We want to encourage families to support the "Walk" portion of the race in support of the men who did not survive their fight with prostate cancer and for those men who have conquered their battle with prostate cancer. Our men need their families and friends to come out and show them how much they support their battle with prostate cancer and encourage all men from age 40 and up to include in their annual physical a Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) and a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test to catch prostate cancer in its earliest stages when they have a better chance of long lasting survival.
